[New Orders +40] Sprinting to the Year-End Finish in Q4, CSSC SETH Wins Continuous Triumphs in the Shaft Generator System Sector
Release date:2026-02-11 Click volume:58

Year-end sprint, decisive finish! In Q4 2025, CSSC SETH made an all-round breakthrough in the shaft generator system sector, boasting an impressive 40+ new ship orders in this quarter and surpassing 450 cumulative actual ship installations of our shaft generator systems!

Below is an introduction to the major projects we have contracted in the recent period.

Xiamen Hongdaxin's 3,600 TEU batch container ships (8 vessels)

The eight 3,600 TEU container ships, funded and built by Nan'an Hongdaxin Shipping Co., Ltd., are equipped with SETH‘s 1,000 kW shaft generator systems in batch. These vessels are classed by the China Classification Society (CCS), with all core power converter utilizing SETH's proprietary intellectual property products. Notably, these ships have reserved battery interfaces and installation space for battery systems, laying the foundation for future green upgrades. Once batteries are installed, the vessels will achieve advantages such as Peak Shaving, Dynamic Support, and Energy Conservation and Emission Reduction, aligning with the global trend toward greener shipping. Previously, SETH had provided shaft generator systems for six container ships owned by the same company. This latest batch order of eight vessels further demonstrates the ship owner's high recognition of SETH's technology and services.

Xiamen Yanhangyu Shipping’s 2,900 TEU Container Ships (6 vessels)

This series of six 2,900 TEU container ships is funded by Xiamen Yanhangyu Shipping Co., Ltd. and built by Ningbo Boda Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. The vessels are equipped with SETH’s 750kW shaft generator system, which includes a 790kW permanent magnet half-half shaft generator. The system delivers constant frequency, constant voltage, and high-quality stable power through the shaft generator frequency converter, filtering equipment, and transformer. It can operate independently for power generation or run in long-term parallel operation with the ship's auxiliary generator sets. Under conditions of variable shaft generator speed and sudden load changes, the system's output power meets the classification society's requirements for both steady-state and transient performance (supporting 100% load shedding and three-stage 0 – 33% – 66% – 100% load application). All core frequency conversion and electrical control equipment in the system are proprietary products of SETH.

Jiangsu Sentosa 2,000 TEU Container Ships (4 vessels)

A total of four 2,000 TEU container ships, constructed by Jiangsu Huatai Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. and Jiangsu Sentosa Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., are equipped with SETH's 1000kW shaft generator system. The system adopts a permanent magnet shaft generator and frequency converter, while integrating the thruster system into the shaft generator system. In side thruster mode, the system supplies power to the thruster motor in reverse through the generator set, transformer, and frequency converter to drive the thruster. This design combines two propulsion modes, not only improving the operational efficiency of the vessels but also effectively reducing the initial investment cost. By optimizing the power system, the ships can utilize energy more efficiently during navigation, reduce fuel consumption, and thereby lower operational costs and carbon emissions.

Kangping Shipbuilding 1900TEU Container Ships (8 Vessels)

Eight 1,900 TEU container ships, constructed by Yizheng Kangping Ship Repair Yard, are equipped with SETH's 980kW shaft generator system and are classed by the China Classification Society (CCS). The vessels' power source is a conventional diesel propulsion main engine, connected to a permanent magnet shaft generator via an intermediate shaft. This ensures that within the normal operating speed range of the main engine, the system can generate sufficient power to supply the ship's load. The core frequency conversion and electrical control equipment used in the system are proprietary products of SETH. This batch order represents another new vessel type served by SETH, following its earlier involvement in the 3,300 TEU container ship series for Kangping Shipyard.

Chenxin Shipping 1,900 TEU Container Ships (2 Vessels)

The series of 1,900 TEU container ships, funded by Chenxin Integrated Shipping Co., Ltd. and built by Yangzhou Wanlong Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., ,is equipped with SETH's 750kW shaft generator system. Chenxin Integrated Shipping is a shipping company specializing in containerized maritime transport. The company currently operates primarily through slot-sharing arrangements in regions such as the Middle East, India-Pakistan, and the Red Sea, and launched new Red Sea liner and Turkey routes in May 2024. This new shipbuilding order marks a strategic move for Chenxin Shipping as it shifts from charter-based operations to expanding its owned fleet capacity. With SETH’s support, Chenxin Shipping will build more efficient and convenient maritime corridors for global trade.

800kW Shaft Generator Retrofit for 91,800 DWT Bulk Carrier Andreas

Following the successful delivery of the shaft generator retrofit project for the Greek 177,000 DWT bulk carrier KANARIS, SETH has secured a new overseas shaft generator retrofit order, marking the company’s first retrofit project in Cyprus. The vessel undergoing retrofit is the ANDREAS, a 91,800 DWT bulk carrier with a length of 229 meters, a beam of 40 meters, and a design draft of 14.7 meters, classed by Lloyd’s Register (LR). The ANDREAS will be equipped with SETH’s shaft generator system, which includes an 850kW half-half permanent magnet shaft generator, a frequency converter, and a transformer. The original ship’s AC switchboard will also be retrofitted with the addition of a shaft generator panel. The system enables automatic paralleling and load-sharing functions, fully meeting the requirements for unattended machinery spaces. This retrofit project is an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) turnkey contract undertaken by SETH, covering preliminary 3D scanning, layout design, manufacturing, installation, and commissioning services. Upon completion, the retrofit is expected to save approximately 1 tonne of fuel per day, significantly optimize the ship’s EEXI (Energy Efficiency Existing Ship Index) performance, and notably improve its CII (Carbon Intensity Indicator) rating. This not only enhances the vessel’s environmental sustainability but also delivers substantial economic benefits.

CSSC SETH continues to deepen our expertise in shaft generator systems while actively exploring innovative solutions. In particular, the "shaft generator + battery system" hybrid solution has been validated through multiple real-ship projects. It successfully integrates the energy efficiency advantages of traditional shaft generators with the rapid response capabilities of new-energy batteries, making it an ideal choice for optimizing overall ship energy efficiency while ensuring power safety. Currently, this innovative solution is gaining increasing recognition from domestic and international ship owners.

At the same time, CSSC SETH’s shaft generator retrofit projects have earned strong approval from ship owners for three key strengths: significant cost savings, compliance with regulations, and professional execution. These projects have been tested and proven in multiple domestic and international ventures.

CSSC SETH is committed to supporting the green and sustainable development of global shipping with reliable power systems.
