At the beginning of the new year, CSSC Ship Electric Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "SETH") successfully won the bid to supply the containerized battery system and power system for the project of Jiangsu Port Group Financial Leasing Co., Ltd involving five 120 TEU fully electric battery-change container vessels. Striving for a strong start in the first quarter, SETH has smoothly achieved its first "opening success" of the year. This batch of vessels is the follow-up to China's first 120 TEU fully electric inland container vessel, the "Jiangyuan Baihe." They will be deployed in the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal (specifically the Northern Jiangsu Canal section) and the Class A, B, and C navigation zones of the Yangtze River, undertaking critical transportation tasks. Their operation will inject new green energy into the logistics and transportation network of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal. The series of ships is being constructed by San Dian Shui New Energy Technology (Anhui) Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Wuhu Shipyard. Currently, the first two ships have reached the keel-laying stage, marking a significant milestone in their construction progress.
This series of ships measures 79.94 meters in length and 12.65 meters in width, with a design speed of 14.0 km/h and a cruising range of 220 km. Boasting a total capacity of over 2,400 tons, each vessel is equipped with two standard container power supplies and features the SETH’s S-Renewable fully electric propulsion system, ensuring zero emissions and low noise. Compared to cargo vessels of the same class powered by coal, these ships can reduce carbon emissions by up to 1,920 tons annually. This advancement will significantly contribute to the green transformation of inland shipping and provide robust support for the development of electric merchant vessels.
In 2022, SETH seized the opportunity to fully engage in the electrification of ships across Jiangsu, Anhui, and Fujian provinces, establishing itself as the first company to design, produce, and manufacture containerized batteries for inland electric cargo vessels. The company successfully pioneered the innovative "plug-and-play" power swapping technology, offering sustainable development solutions that align with the green and high-quality growth of inland shipping.
Among the notable achievements in the electric river cargo vessel sector are several groundbreaking projects: The first electric cargo vessels in Jiangsu, Anhui, and Fujian provinces, including the "Jiangyuan Baihe" 120TEU battery-swapping container vessel (capable of charging and replacing batteries), the "Ganghang Chuantu 01" 110TEU container vessel (integrated charging and battery swapping), and the "Wuyi 2" 58m extended-range electric bulk carrier (charging).
The "Yangangji 001/002" 64TEU battery-swapping container vessels (integrated charging and battery swapping), and the "Yuetong Zhujiang 001" 50m, the first "oil-to electricity " retrofit battery-swapping container vessel in China/Guangdong Province (integrated charging and battery swapping).
The "Chuanchuan Yangtze River 001," the first "oil-to-electricity" retrofit cargo vessel in China/Anhui Province (charging), and Zhejiang Ruigang Green Energy's four 64TEU battery-swapping container vessels (integrated charging and battery swapping).
Other significant projects include the Zhejiang Lvzhou 1000T bulk-container vessel (charging), Hong Kong Canvest's 142TEU (integrated charging and battery swapping), 36TEU (integrated charging and battery swapping), and 8TEU (charging) electric container vessels, and Shunda Logistics' 54TEU container vessel (integrated charging and battery swapping).
To date, the number of inland river electric cargo vessel projects equipped exclusively with SETH's battery power system has surpassed 20. Through these efforts, SETH has solidified its position as a pioneer and driving force in advancing the green, low-carbon, and sustainable development of inland waterway freight.
In 2025, SETH will embrace this ambitious vision as its guiding principle, dedicating full efforts to accelerate progress, drive exploration and innovation, and expand its reach from inland shipping operations to broader horizons. Through these strategic initiatives, SETH is committed to making significant contributions to the sustainable and environmentally-friendly development across all sectors of the shipping industry.
